Mashography: Singles Box Set (2004-2007)
World Famous Audio Hacker Singles Virtual Box Set

Here it is: An 8-CD virtual CD singles box set featuring the best and the worst of World Famous Audio Hacker productions ranging from 2004 to 2007, featuring material originally released also under the Daft Monkey and Noisehead aliases early on.

The idea was to bind the older material together into smaller packages of EPs and virtual singles, rather than the full length 3 CD collection "Daftology" put out earlier in 2007. Some additional material is included as well as the previously lost track "A Forest (Dirt Mix)".

CD1: "Party Ben Is Playing At My House" EP (5 tracks; May 2005)
CD2: "Queens Never End" EP (4 tracks; Feb. 2006)
CD3: "Beverly Hills Lion" EP (4 tracks; March 2006)
CD4: "Promiscuous Mama" EP (4 tracks; Sept. 2006)
CD5: "Forest Dirt" EP (5 tracks; April 2007)
CD6: "Do It Well" EP (6 tracks; October 2006-August 2007)
CD7: "Compiled" EP (5 tracks; December 2007)
CD8: "Timebomb" 7" (2 tracks; December 2007)

I hope you enjoy one or two finds amongst these older tracks. I'll be re-posting my "Paper Planes" remix and by "K. Wows M." tracks soon as the beginning of getting new material up next.
CD1: Party Ben Is Playing At My House [EP]

A1: The Hand That QT's (Explicit)
A2: Party Ben Is Playing At My House (Explicit)
B1: Can't Cash You Out Of My Head
B2: Wannabe Weirdo (Featuring McSleazy Spice)
B3: Bite You Tonight

Liner notes

This is the first installment in the World Famous Audio Hacker singles box set. Essentially, I'm remastering the sound levels and artwork for my prior releases and packaging them nicely into virtual 12" and 7" singles for easy consumption.

The Hand That QT's - Nine Inch Nails vs. M.I.A., they both released stems from their singles "The Hand That Feeds" and "URAQT" for public remixing and bootleggery. How could I resist combining the two into a 100% legal mashup?

Party Ben Is Playing At My House - Party Ben was kind enough to post a voicemail message on his Web site. Everyone and their brother were remixing and bootlegging "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House". This is a bit of a failed bootleg of "Gorillaz Are Playing At My House" I was putting together that I megamixed using work by Zebra and Riko to round it off.

Can't Cash You Out Of My Head - Kylie vs. ABC vs. New Order. I couldn't find the original bootlegs of "Kylie Wants To Be A Millionaire" or "Can't Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head", so I created my assumption of what the two of them might sound like, blended into a dual-headed mashup.

Wannabe Weirdo - McSleazy put out a remix version he produced of The Charlatans UK's "Weirdo" and a DIY acapella of "Wannabe" from the Spice Girls was floating around out there at the same time. Combined together and edited to repeat the only part of "Wannabe" anyone really enjoys over and over again leaves you with a Wannabe Weirdo.

Bite You Tonight - Audiodile produced a remix of Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" which breaks to the guitars from "Need You Tonight" by INXS for a tiny segment. Here's my attempt to blow that idea out into a full mashup. OOT and OOK, but I like it. Yes, that's Vanilla Ice at the end.

Original release: May 2005. Catalog No. HACK-01-EP.
CD2: Queens Never End [EP]

A1: Queens Never End
A2: Wandering Star (Inverted Mix)
B1: Rock & Rave Queen
B2: 2 Many Doobies

Liner Notes

Disc 2 in the World Famous Audio Hacker singles box set essentially focuses on two versions of mixing derived from "Rock And Roll Queen" by The Subways with a pair of additional tracks that didn't receive a lot of promotion or attention when first put out.

Queens Never End - One of my favorite tracks I've put together, "Queens Never End" combines a restructured edit that constructs an instrumental version of "Dreams Never End" by New Order and pairs it up with vocals from "Rock & Roll Queen".

Wandering Star - Put together slightly after the release of "Dumb", which was a bastard pop tribute to Portishead. Katie Enlow performed vocals for a version of "Wandering Star" on "Dumb" and later released the vocal track she recorded. This is my version of Katie's vocals laid on top of a reconstruction of the Mylo track "Sunworshipper", essentially looping the structure of the Mylo track in opposite order.

Rock & Rave Queen - A second version of "Rock & Roll Queen". I had read an interview with a few bootleggers from the 2002-2004 era and a common theme of wondering why more old school rave tracks didn't pop up in the mashup scene kept nagging at me. This version pairs the vocals from The Subways' track with a combination of 2 old-school rave tracks from Stakker and Humanoid.

2 Many Doobies - The Soulwax (AKA 2 Many DJ's) track "N.Y. Excuse" reminded me a bit of "China Grove" by The Doobie Brothers. This is a bit of a quick cut and paste to make the sounds in my head realized through mashuppery. Yet another track I slated to be remastered with cleaner vocals and the intention to handle the changes in "China Grove" better which hasn't come to fruition quite yet.

Original release date: February 2006. Catalog No. HACK-02-EP.
CD3: Beverly Hills Lion [EP]

A1: Beverly Hills Lion
A2: Never Win Against The Wall
B1: Since The Jerk Checked Out (Explicit)
B2: Homeboys Never Win

Liner Notes

The third installment of the World Famous Audio Hacker singles box set includes remastered artwork from the "Beverly Hills Lion" track and three companion mashup tracks released during the same time.

Beverly Hills Lion - Weezer's "Beverly Hills Lion" put up against "Gold Lion" by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Includes additional beats by Meat Beat Manifesto and a strikingly out of place break to "I Am The Walrus" and wrapping it up with the "We Will Rock You" beats sounding so familiar to the "Beverly Hills" and "Gold Lion" drum line.

Never Win Against The Wall - Fischerspooner didn't make it a secret that "Never Win" was intended as a reference back to "Another Brick In The Wall" from Pink Floyd. Here's my attempt to combine the two into a single track. A bit rough, been done since by a handful of others, but I'm especially proud of the transitions into "Rapture" by Blondie and Nine Inch Nails' "Closer". Unfortunately, the stuttering edits are a bit off-kilter and might distract from the self-proclaimed "magic" of what this could have been.

Since The Jerk Checked Out - Kelly Clarkson singing "Since U Been Gone" on top of the Jason Nevins remix version of "Jerk It Out" by Caesars with a little sprinkle of the Beastie Boys to polish off the track.

Homeboys Never Win - The DIY vocals detract from this, another track that begs to be re-done and re-,mastered. Pete Fijalkowski of Adorable gave it a laugh, as this essentially lifts his vocals from "Homeboy" and places them on top of the Blondie come-back track "Good Boys". In general, his comment was "Adorable vs. Blondie? I think Blondie wins." Grandmaster Flash pops in for a quick visit.

Original release date: March 2006. Catalog No. HACK-03-EP.
CD4: Promiscuous Mama [EP]

A1: Promiscuous Mama (World Famous Key Party Mix)
A2: 1-2 Step (Nude Mix)
B1: Da Ya Want SexyBack?
B2: I'm The Type Of Gunn

Liner Notes

The fourth installment in the World Famous Audio Hacker singles box.

Promiscuous Mama - Wolfgang Press beef up the Summer anthem "Promiscuous" from Nelly Furtado and Timbaland with their version of "Mama Told Me Not To Come". I put this together before the slew of "Promiscuous" bootlegs started to hit, which was also a few weeks before the nice acapella of the song started to circulate. So, it's a little noisy. I promised to remaster it and re-do it with a clean vocal extraction, but then "Promiscuous" started to become the runaway hit that it was and I quickly found myself beating my head against overkill.

1-2 Step - Ciara's "1-2 Step" tripped out a little bit with the "Nude Mix" of "Getting Away With It" from Electronic. A few months after I put this out, I was fumbling around my old collection of bootlegs and found that Team9 actually did a version of this much earlier on, using the standard version of the Electronic track, for his "Madchester Booted" EP.

Da Ya Want SexyBack? - Almost positive someone else would do this, I rushed it together... Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack" slapped together with "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" by Rod Stewart. A handful of bootleggers later did a similar concept, most of them pulling it off with better quality thanks to waiting for a clean acapella on their part. Yet again, something that was begging for me to remaster it, but the overkill status of the song soon took away my gusto for remastering the production.

I'm The Type Of Gunn - LL Cool J's "I'm The Type Of Guy" pumped up with a combination of contribution from the "What Is Hip" remix version of "Peter Gunn" by Sarah Vaughan and a bit of play with "Din Da Da" towards the end.

Original release date: September 2006. Catalog No. HACK-04-EP.
CD5: Forest Dirt [EP]

A1: A Clear And Present Danger (Copyright Terrorism Intro)
A2: A Forest (Early Dub Mix)
B1/B2: Hacked (Parts 1 & 2)
B3: A Forest (Dirt Mix)
B4: When I'm Dub (Early Demo Mix)

Liner Notes

"Forest Dirt" is the 5th in a series of virtual singles and somewhat documents a number of abandoned projects between 2006 and 2007.

A Clear And Present Danger - I spent several weeks hacking up vowels and consonants from George W. Bush speeches over the year to set him up to proclaim war on mashups, finally declaring "mashups are dead". This was originally based on a TV On The Radio remix I was putting together. It was intended to be the introduction to a full length DJ set of original cut ups and mashups I wanted to put together and release under the title "Copyright Terrorism" as a laugh at my hoax arrest for playing mashups at a nightclub called The Glitch Lounge.

A Forest (Early Dub Mix) - A demo version of a remodeled version of "A Forest" by The Cure, this was intended more as the launching pad for a series of cover songs, rather than actual mashups or remixes. Somewhere along the line, the idea was somewhat abandoned and I was left with a simple instrumental remix in the end.

Hacked (Parts 1 & 2) - Another abandoned project, the Hacked project. The idea was simple, take other people's mashups, find similar or complementary mashups from others like them and remix, blend, cut up, remix and patch them together as a new segement... doing one each week and ending up with a full length mashup DJ set that attacks some of the great mashups being made at the time and pairing them up with classic mashups and new remix work from me. In the end, it lasted two weeks. Thanks to Party Ben, Wax Audio, Aggro1 and Copycat for the original sources on this two-part track gone awry.

A Forest (Dirt Mix) - The Cure vs. Depeche Mode. Mostly a simple A+B, but could likely have used a bit more change-up in it. I originally forgot about this one when putting out the "Daftology" collection, but found it was being circulating amongst Depeche Mode remix fans on a fan-made compilation called "Depeche Mode - 'VS.'".

When I'm Dub (Early Demo Mix) - The beginnings of a remix of "When I'm Gone" by 3 Doors Down was intended as an included track in the Copyright Terrorism CD. Somewhat used as a comment on the Iraq war, somewhat just a great Rock song that seemed like it deserved some electronic treatment. Mostly of "outtake" quality, but still a fun listen on occassion.

Original release date: April 2007. Catalog No. HACK-05-EP.
CD6: Do It Well [EP]

A1: Do It Well (D.A.N.C.E. Mix)
A2: Dashboard 2.0 (Re-Touch)
A3: Spooky (Arcade Horror Mix)
B1: Mandela Is Dead (Explicit)
B2: Do It Well (D.A.N.C.E. Version)
B3: The Commissioner's Dashboard

Liner Notes

Do It Well - Jennifer Lopez vs. Justice. Two versions.
Dashboard - Modest Mouse vs. Falco.
Spooky - Classics IV vs. MARRS.
Mandela Is Dead - George W. Bush vs. L.A. Style.
The Commissioner's Dashboard - Classics IV vs. MARRS vs After The Fire (OOK).

Originally released: 2006/2007. Catalog No. HACK-06-EP.
CD7: Compiled [EP]

A1: Setting Sun (Hacker's Hardcore Dub)
A2: White Riot (Chaos Island Mix)
B1: The Spy (Numbers Station Mix)
B2: Setting Sun (Hacker's Hardcore Inferno)
B3: Say It Right / The Joker (Space-Age Bachelor Pad Mix)

Liner Notes

The 7th CD in a series of remastered/collected productions from 2004-2007, "Compiled", combines tracks featured on various compilations in 2007.

Setting Sun - Two versions included for the Chemical Brothers tribute CD "Block Rockin' Boots". The Hardcore Dub is essentially a remix of one of my favorite Big Beat songs ever. The Hardcore Inferno version is a mashup between my remix version and vocals from "Disco Inferno" by The Trammps.

White Riot - A remix of the single from the debut LP from The Clash, produced for the Joe Strummer tribute project "The One's For Joe: Punk Rock Warlord".

The Spy - A remix of the Doors song off of "Morrisson Hotel". Produced for a concept album for Radio Clash focusing on subliminal, subversive and counter-intelligence themed tracks. A moody remix, and numbers stations still kind of creep me out.

Say It Right / The Joker - Produced for the Wha?! compilation "Forgotten Hits", taking some early 50s Jazz material from J.J.Jackson and combining it with some remix work and vocals from Nelly Furtado, plus some samples from James Bond. The result? It was supposed to be a bit James Bond, a bit Jetsons. In general, it was mostly described as "surreal" by listeners, at the kindest.

Originally released: 2007. Catalog No. HACK-07-EP.
CD8: Timebomb [7"]

A1: (Prayer For A) Timebomb
B1: (Cold-Hearted) Timebomb

Liner Notes

The 8th and final CD in the virtual singles box from World Famous Audio Hacker documenting his productions from 2004-2007.

(Prayer For A) Timebomb - A bit of an excuse to combine as much Alternate Rock as possible into a single track, this one features a combination of Beck, The Hives, The Vines, The Godfathers, Bloc Party and Skinny Puppy.

(Cold-Hearted) Timebomb - An alternate version where I actually strayed from the formula of doing all-Alternative bands... Paula Abdul and Salt 'N Pepa take over for Bloc Party on the vocal bits on this more playful version which also tosses Young MC into the bunch.

Original release: October 21 2007. Catalog No. HACK-08.
